Inaugural session of public consultations on transitional justice in Ethiopia underway

Addis Ababa, March 6, 2023 (FBC) – The National Public Consultations on Transitional Justice Policy Options inaugural session is underway.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Demeke Mekonnen, Speaker of the FDRE House of Peoples’ Representatives, Tagese Chafo, other senior government officials and stakeholders have attended the inaugural session, according to EBC’s report.

It is said that the implementation of the transitional justice system has a significant contribution to protect human rights and ensure the rule of law.

During the event, DPM & FM Demeke Mekonnen noted that Ethiopia is a country with multiple common values ​​and can resolve differences through mutual understanding.

He recalled that the country has faced myriads of conspiracy and conflicts that challenged the solidarity of its people.

Demeke entrusted everyone concerned to be part of solutions to conflicts and conspiracies in order to ensure lasting peace and implement transitional justice in Ethiopia.

He also urged all stakeholders to play their respective roles by scraping grudges and pursuing the facts in order to ensure appropriate justice for human rights violations.

The Speaker of the FDRE House of Peoples’ Representatives, Tagese Chafo, for his part, said that transitional justice is the way to permanently solve human rights abuses, rancour, and injustices.
