Addis Ababa, August 1, 2023 (FBC) – IGAD is hosting the National Consultation Workshop on the Kampala Declaration on Jobs, Livelihood and Self-Reliance for Refugees, Returnees and Host Communities.
The consultation is being held in Bishoftu, Ethiopia, from 1-2August, 2023.
The IGAD Kampala Declaration on Jobs, Livelihoods and Self-Reliance for Refugees, Returnees and Host Communities was adopted by IGAD member states in Kampala, Uganda in March 2019.
Speaking on the opening ceremony, Refugees and Returnees Service (RRS) Director General Teyiba Hassen highlighted that the ‘Declaration’ holds great importance in achieving the objectives of the Global Compact on Refugees in the IGAD region.
The Director General outlined Ethiopia has adopted a whole-of-society approach to integrate refugees into the national TVET system and provide employment opportunities through coordination and cooperation.
She also highlighted that RRS aims to demonstrate the viability of investments in forced displacement contexts by mobilizing private sector projects.
