IGAD reiterates commitment to promoting sustainable, resilient agrifood systems for a prosperous Africa

Addis Ababa, January 10, 2025 (FMC) – The Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), Workneh Gebeyehu, stated that the agriculture sector remains the major driver of economic growth in Africa.

The IGAD chief made this remark at the ongoing the Ministerial Session of the Extraordinary Summit on the Post Malabo Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) in Kampala, Uganda.

According to Workneh, the agriculture sector is still the backbone and key driver of economic growth in the Horn of Africa region, in particular.

He reiterated that IGAD is committed to promoting sustainable, resilient agrifood systems for a prosperous Africa.
