Addis Ababa, August 8, 2024 (FBC) – The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Executive Secretary, Workneh Gebeyehu, has extended congratulations to Taye Atske-Selassie on his inauguration as the President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.
Recall that Taye Atske-Selassie, formerly the Minister of Foreign Affairs, has assumed the role on 7th October 2024 following the tenure of Sahle-Work Zewde, who served as President from 2018.
A statement released by the regional bloc noted that its Executive Secretary acknowledged the contributions of Sahle-Work Zewde in advancing the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia’s interests and fostering regional cooperation. IGAD also expressed appreciation for her service and dedication to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and the wider region.
“As Taye Atske-Selassie undertakes the responsibilities of the presidency, IGAD reaffirms its commitment to maintaining and enhancing cooperation with the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia on matters of mutual interest, particularly in the areas of regional integration, peace, and development”, the statement reads.
In its statement, IGAD underscored that it is looking forward to continued partnership and constructive engagement with the leadership of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.
