Addis Ababa, October 3, 2024 (FBC) – The Speaker of the House of People’s Representatives of Ethiopia (HoPR), Mr. Tagese Chafo, welcomed a delegation from the German Parliament at his office today. During the meeting,
The two dignitaries explored the long-standing ties between the two countries and potential areas of future cooperation.
Speaker Tagese expressed Ethiopia’s interest in learning from Germany’s experience in job creation and supporting small and micro-scale enterprises. He also highlighted that Ethiopia has opened its economy to foreign investment, creating opportunities for foreign direct investment in sectors such as agriculture, mining, and tourism.
The Speaker emphasized the importance of enhancing economic cooperation between Ethiopia and Germany.
He mentioned that the Ethiopian government is actively working to address the concerns and demands of its citizens through the National Dialogue Commission (NDC), which is conducting nationwide consultations to resolve issues that arise in the country.
The government believes that these consultations will lead to a compromise that strengthens Ethiopia’s stability and prosperity, he added.
The head of the delegation, Mr. Hermann Gröhe, reiterated Germany’s commitment to collaborating with Ethiopia in areas such as politics, education, peace, freedom, and justice.
Both dignitaries agreed to continue fostering the long-standing bilateral relationship between Ethiopia and Germany, and to explore new areas of cooperation to benefit both countries.
