Addis Ababa, April 12, 2024 (FBC) – A federal government delegation led by the Health Minister, Dr. Mekdes Daba, has reviewed the progress of the construction of a radiation therapy facility in Ayder Referral Hospital in Mekelle City, Tigray Region.
Leadership of the hospital assured the delegation that efforts are well underway to finalize the construction of the facility as per scheduled.
The finalization of the center will significantly expand access to radiation treatment for cancer patients, it was stated on the occasion.
The delegation also visited Aphomy disposable gloves manufacturer in Mekelle which has a capacity of producing more than 4,000 gloves per hour.
Dr. Mekdes and her delegation also observed medical services in Ayder Hospital, according to the Ministry of Health.
The Ministry of Health has so far stated that work is underway to build more radiation therapy centers in different parts of the country in response to the worrying trends in cancer prevalence and incidence, and a large backlog of cancer patients waiting to access treatment across Ethiopia.
