Addis Ababa, September 15, 2023 (FBC) – Ethiopia’s Minister of Health, Dr. Lia Tadesse, has been elected as the co-chairwoman of the governing board of Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), the Director-General confirmed.
In a post on X – formerly known as Twitter, the Director-General of Africa CDC, Dr. Jean Kaseya, stated that Dr. Lia Taddese has been elected as the co-chairperson and Sylvia T. Masebo, Minister of Health of Zambia as chair of the Governing Board.
Congratulating the two respective health ministers on their election, the Director General said that their strategic guidance will undoubtedly lead the continent’s public health agency to greater heights in safeguarding Africa’s health.
“Africa CDC is privileged to be guided by these prominent women Ministers of Health, and I am honoured to serve under their exceptional leadership,” he added.
For her part, Dr. Lia noted that she is honored to represent Ethiopia as vice chair of the Africa CDC governing board with her Zambian counterpart as the Chair.
She vowed to support and contributiion to the growth and progress of Africa CDC as a strong regional institution.
