Addis Ababa, October 12, 2022 (FBC) – Ethiopia’s Minister of Health, Lia Taddese (PhD), appreciated the support provided by Last Mile Health for technology enabled blended learning for training of Health Extension Workers.
Dr. Lia Taddese met with Last Mile Health CEO, Lisha McCormick, her team and Ben Pyne, Portfolio & Investments Team Principal of Skoll Foundation.
They discussed the outcome and further scale up of technology enabled blended learning for training of Health Extension Workers (HEWs).
Hence, the Minister praised Last Mile Health for provision of support on the training.
She stated that the scale up follows successful piloting of blended learning for in-service training on Reproductive Maternal and Child health targeting 1122 HEWs and their supervisors in 20 woredas in Amahara, Oromia, SNNP and Sidama regions.
Meanwhile, Dr. Lia also held a discussion with representatives from Jimma University (JU), Lyon’s St. Joseph-St.Luc Hospital (SJSL) and the French Embassy in Ethiopia.
They discussed the fellowship in Urogynacology, Cardiology and more at JU in collaboration with SJSL hospital.
According to the Health Minister, these trainings are aligned with Ethiopia’s national specialty and subspecialty roadmap with a plan to scale up the model to other teaching hospitals.
She thanked the program coordinator, Dr. Stephan Bretones, his colleagues, Jimma University Leadership and faculty, and the French Government.
