Health Minister affirms Ethiopia’s commitment to tackling impacts of AMR

Addis Ababa, September 28, 2024 (FBC) – The Health Minister Dr. Mekdes Daba, at the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA79), announced that Ethiopia will be prioritizing efforts to mitigate the threat caused by antimicrobial resistance (AMR).

Speaking at a forum of senior officials, Dr. Mekdes affirmed Ethiopia’s commitment to tackling AMR through awareness, surveillance and research, underlining that this global threat [AMR] demands international cooperation.

The minister emphasized that tackling this global threat requires international cooperation.

Reports show AMR poses significant public health challenges in Africa, leading to increased morbidity and mortality.
