Addis Ababa, July 8, 2024 (FBC) – Hawassa, the capital of Sidama regional state, has initiated a corridor development project under the overarching theme ‘Corridor Development for the Super Beauty of Our City’ earlier today.
This project spans 11.2 kilometers and is estimated to cost 1.64 billion birr.
Additionally, a 34.2 kilometer road in the suburbs of Hawasa, outside Dato and Cheffe settlements, is set to be connected at a cost of 64 billion birr.
The corridor development work is expected to be completed in three phases, encompassing bicycle lanes, green spaces, recreational areas, and public toilet facilities, FBC can confirm.
This project aims to transform Hawassa into a more beautiful and livable city, showcasing the city’s commitment to infrastructure development and quality of life improvements for its residents.
The Ethiopian government has launched the corridor development project in various cities, including Addis Ababa, with the goal of transforming them into internationally competitive and welcoming cities. This initiative aims to advance the infrastructure and quality of life in these urban centers, making them more attractive to residents and businesses alike.
In Addis Ababa, the city administration is undertaking a comprehensive 240 kilometers of road and related infrastructure development. Notably, the city has already completed the Piasa-Arat Kilo-Kebena-Kenya Embassy route as well as the Mexico-Sar Bet area highway, showcasing its commitment to urban renewal and connectivity.
Bahir Dar, in the Amhara region, and Arba-Minch, in South Ethiopia region, are among the other cities that have initiated their own corridor development projects, further solidifying Ethiopian government’s latest dedication to urban transformation and economic growth.
