Addis Ababa, August 24, 2022 (FBC) — On July 19th, 2022, the Creditors Committee formed to review Ethiopia’s request for debt treatment under the Common Framework beyond DSSI ( Debt Service Suspension Initiative) met to discuss pending issues in light of the discussion between the Government of Ethiopia and the IMF.
The Government of Ethiopia would like to extend its appreciation to all bilateral creditor countries for their work to provide Ethiopia the necessary financing assurance in line with the overall strategy of the Government of Ethiopia to reduce the debt burden from high to moderate.
Following the announcement of the request for debt treatment by the Government of Ethiopia, the Creditor Committee has met four times and was provided with all the relevant debt stock data and Ethiopia’s strategy to manage its debt vulnerabilities in the long term. We also appreciate the continued engagement of the IMF in designing a new program to support Ethiopia’s ambitious economic growth.
The Government of Ethiopia thanks the Creditors Committee for their commitment and looks forward to an expeditious conclusion of the debt treatment discussion.
