Ghana approves visa-free travel for all African citizens, reports say

Addis Ababa, December 27, 2024 (FMC) – Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo approved last week a visa-free travel policy for all African passport holders, fulfilling a promise made earlier this year, a local media outlet Asaase News reported.

“The government of Ghana is committed to ensuring visa-free for all Africans, for all Africans travelling into our country, and the process has begun to get the policy implemented this year,” the Ghanaian president stated at the Africa Prosperity Dialogues on January 25, 2024.

Akufo-Addo then reportedly promised to implement the policy before the end of his presidential term on January 6, 2025, according to Sputnik Africa.

The move makes Ghana the fifth African nation to implement such a policy along with Rwanda, Seychelles, Gambia, and Benin, and significantly expands its previous visa-on-arrival and visa-free programs. The policy is expected to boost tourism and further integration among African nations, according to media reports.
