Addis Ababa, June 29, 2023 (FBC) – A high-level delegation of the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development of German (BMZ), including Dirk Meyer, Director General and Tania Vorwerk, Deputy Director General have visited Bole Lemi Industrial Park (IP) in Addis Ababa.
The industrial park is one in six industrial parks supported by the German Development Cooperation and the Foregin Commonwealth and development through the Sustainable Industrial Clusters project.
It is stated that the delegation met with Bole Lemi IP management, followed by a factory visit to Ashton Apparel and visits to the construction site of the new German-Austrian investor Lohmann and Rauscher as well as the dormitories and daycare for workers at SHINTS Garments.
During the visit the delegation learned about the potential of IPs for decent job creation and sustainable economic growth, investors’ perspectives on manufacturing in Ethiopia and the impact of social investments on improving worker welfare and reducing turnover.
It is indicated that the Sustainable Industrial Clusters project implemented by GIZ supports Bole Lemi IP with activities on buyer matchmaking, investors’ compliance with the newly enacted German supply chain due diligence law, promoting worker welfare and improving environmental sustainability.
