Addis Ababa, October 31, 2024 (FBC) – The German government reaffirmed its support for the Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration (DDR) program being implemented by the National Rehabilitation Commission of Ethiopia (NRC).
This story was disclosed by the Commission after the discussion between Chief Commissioner of NRC, Mr.Temesgen Tilahun, and the German Ambassador-designate to Ethiopia, Jens Hanefeld, at the Commission’s head office in Addis Ababa on Wednesday.
During their discussion, Commissioner Temesgen briefed the Ambassador-designate on the ongoing efforts on the demobilization that is being completed by the Commission. He asserted that in the next few days, the first round of demobilization and reintegration of ex-combatants who meet the criteria will begin the process in the Tigray region.
In that regard, Mr. Temesgen appealed for the German government’s support for the DDR program being implemented by the Ethiopian government.
On his part, Ambassador-designate Jens Hanefeld, said that the strides being undertaken by the Ethiopian government to bring lasting peace in the country are commendable.
He mentioned that his government is closely monitoring the implementation of the DDR program and confirmed that the German government will continue to support its success.
