Germany pledges €56.5 million in financial and technical support to Ethiopia

Addis Ababa, October 17, 2024 (FBC) – Ethiopia and Germany have engaged in productive discussions at the Ministry of Finance, reinforcing their commitment to enhance collaboration as Ethiopia pursues its Homegrown Economic Reform Agenda 2.0.

During the talks, Finance Minister Ahmed Shide underscored the essential role of international support in meeting Ethiopia’s economic reform objectives. He affirmed the country’s dedication to these reforms and emphasized the importance of assistance from partners like Germany to facilitate this transformative journey.

German Ambassador Jens Hanefeld acknowledged the historical ties between the two nations and expressed his commitment to further bolster bilateral relations. He conveyed hopes that the recent consultations would clarify ongoing initiatives and pave the way for future collaboration.

Additionally, Mr. Marcus von Essen, Head of Division for East Africa at the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, expressed his eagerness to explore new avenues of cooperation that could benefit both countries.

State Minister of Finance Semereta Sewasew extended her appreciation to Germany for its unwavering support, stating, “Your commitment to our partnership has been invaluable and reflects our shared vision for a prosperous future.”

In conclusion, the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany announced its plan to provide €56.5 million in financial and technical assistance over the coming years to support various initiatives, including the Productive Safety Net Program, promotion of small and medium enterprises, educational projects, land governance, and rural value chains.
