Germany donates €4m development assistance to Ethiopia

Addis Ababa, February 9, 2021 (FBC) –Germany, through the European Commission, has donated development assistance amounting €4 million to Ethiopia.

The financial support would be used for effective electoral management and leadership in Ethiopia over the 2020-2025 electoral cycle, according to a press release issued by the Ministry of Finance.

The support is part of the €10 million grant agreement signed in December, 2019, between Ethiopia and the European Commission.

The grant agreement was attended by Ahmed Shide, Ethiopia’s Minister of Finance and Ambassador Johan Borgstam, Head of EU Delegation to Ethiopia.

Additional support to the election process in Ethiopia amounting €10 million was also granted by Germany through the EU on November 26, 2020.

Germany and the EU provided a total of €24 million for effective electoral management and leadership in Ethiopia over the 2020-2025.
