Addis Ababa, October 12, 2023 (FBC) – The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) technical committee will hold its meeting in Cairo, Egypt on October 23-24, ENA reports citing the words of the Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The second round of tripartite negotiation on the water filling and annual operations of GERD had taken place in Addis Ababa on September 23, 2023.
The negotiations centered on finding common ground on key issues, including the filling and operation of the dam as well as mechanisms for resolving disputes that may arise in the future.
Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Meles Alem said in his media briefing today that GERD technical committee will hold its meeting in Cairo, Egypt after 10 days.
Ethiopia has been engaged in negotiations with Egypt and Sudan over GERD based on the principle of equitable and reasonable utilization while ensuring its rightful share of the Nile waters.
The construction of GERD has now reached more than 90 percent. The civil work construction of the dam is expected to be completed during the current Ethiopian fiscal year, which was first revealed by President Sahle-Work Zewde during her remarks at the joint opening session of the House of Peoples’ Representatives and House of Federation on October 9, 2023.
