Addis Ababa, September 12, 2024 (FBC) – The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) construction project has provided young Ethiopians with invaluable opportunities for professional growth and entrepreneurship, according to professionals engaged in the Dam’s construction site.
Many young Ethiopians involved in various professions at the dam’s construction site have admitted that they have advanced to a higher professional level in each domain, showcasing their newfound skills and competency in civil and hydro-mechanical works.
Efrem Wolde-Kidan, Assistant Manager of the GERD Construction Project, pointed out that Ethiopians involved in the construction project have consistently demonstrated their ability to assemble resources on-site, despite the challenges posed by the project’s scale and complexity.
This has not only contributed to the project’s success but also helped in retaining foreign currency, he underscored.
Mr. Molla Asmare, manager of KT Industrial Solutions, reminisced about his time at the GERD construction site, where he was employed when the project began. Owing to the skills he acquired during his time at the dam construction site, he said he was able to establish his own business and began manufacturing the radiator for the Dam’s turbine cooling unit.
These young professionals engaged in different domains at the dam construction site have expressed that they have developed the capacity to work efficiently in any setting.
According to these individuals, the construction process has played a crucial role in fostering professional competence and readiness for future hydropower projects that Ethiopia intends to undertake.
