GCS say 7.3mil people receive humanitarian assistance in 2 rounds

Addis Ababa, October 14, 2023 (FBC) – The government of Ethiopia has provided emergency humanitarian assistance to 7.3 million people affected by drought and conflict in two rounds, according to Government Communication Service (GCS).

During a press briefing this morning, Minister of State for Government Communication Service, Ms. Selamawit Kassa, said efforts have been intensifying to support emergency assistance to those who need urgent help.

Accordingly, the government has provided emergency humanitarian assistance to 7.3 million people affected by drought and conflict, as called by local media.

“From July to October, 798,607 quintals of food items were distributed in two rounds to people in need. Also, about 1.4 billion birr has been provided as financial support to members of the society who are in need of support,” she indicated.

About 3.6 million members of the public have received the financial support to meet their needs in the local markets, she added.

Speaking on the current situation in the Amhara region, Selamawit stated that, the new leadership of the region is extending administrative units to the lowest level and various public discussions are being held to respond to questions raised by the society as well as to bring lasting peace and stability in the region.

On other hand, Selamawit elaborated that this year’s National Flag Day will be celebrated under the theme “The Prestige of Our Flag: A Guarantee for Unity and Sovereignty” on Monday across the nation.

The day will be celebrated at federal government institutions, regions and city administrations, as well as defense forces camps and Ethiopian embassies and missions abroad at the same time, at 10:30 in the morning.
