Addis Ababa, November 7, 2022 (FBC) – Gambella region has launched the 4th Regional Malaria Week campaign in the presence of various stakeholders including the senior regional officials, on Monday, 7 November.
The Gambella Region Government Communication Service stated that the Malaria Week campaign is being carried out with various activities to prevent the spread of malaria.
According to the Deputy Head of the Gambella Region Health Bureau, Ujulu Gilo, the incidence of malaria has decreased in the region in the last five years. However, in the 2021/22 fiscal year the incidence has worryingly increased.
He explained that in 2021/2022 fiscal year 101,811 people were infected with malaria, which is a 64 percent increase compared to the 2020/21 fiscal year.
It was also stated that preparations have been made to carry out diagnostic and treatment activities to prevent malaria in the areas where there is a lot of social activity during the Malaria Week campaign.
