Addis Ababa, October 15, 2020 (FBC) – Four edible oil factories have started trial production in different parts of the country, said the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MoTI).
Eshete Asfaw, State Minister of Trade and Industry, told FBC yesterday that they are among the 17 huge factories under construction in different parts of the country.
The four factories, namely Bure, Debre Markos, Adama and Dire Dawa will begin producing oil for export this month, the State Minister stated.
He said there is a plan to fully replace oil imports with local production this Ethiopian fiscal year through increasing involvement of investors with the necessary support.
According to Eshete, investors have engaged in soybean production in Benishangul Gumuz and Gambella regional states to supply raw materials needed for the plants.
He said priorities were given for the construction of electricity and other essential infrastructure to the factories.
