Forum discusses ways to tackle challenges in attracting FDI

Addis Ababa, January 2, 2020 (FBC) –A consultative forum organized today by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs discussed on challenges in attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) to Ethiopia.

Following the ongoing comprehensive reforms, more foreign investors are coming to Ethiopia, said Gedu Andargachew, Minister of Foreign Affairs.

However, he said, “there are gaps in properly welcoming, convincing and engaging investors,” the Minister said.

Ambassador Girma Birru, Macro Economic Advisor to the Prime Minister, for his part said many investors prefer Ethiopia for investment.

Accordingly, “we should build our capacity of tackling challenges faced by foreign investors,” he noted.

During the forum, problems of security, infrastructure, land, service delivery were mentioned as the main challenges faced by investors.

The discussion ended with the establishment of a joint forum led by Ambassador Girma Birru to tackle the challenges in the sector.
