Former UK PM Tony Blair acclaims progress of Ethiopia’s digital transformation agenda

Addis Ababa, October 11, 2024 (FBC) – Tony Blair, the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and the Chairman of the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change (TBI), said that the digital transformation agenda being implemented in Ethiopia is progressing well.

Tony Blair made this comment during a meeting with Ethiopia’s Minister of Innovation and Technology, Belete Molla, and other officials to discuss the contribution of the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change to the implementation and success of Ethiopia’s digital transformation agenda.

It was mentioned that Director General of the Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute (EAII) and member of national Digital Transformation Council, and Yodahe Araya-Selassie, Head of the National Digital ID Project Office, were present at the discussion.

The officials thanked the Tony Blair Institute for its support to the sector in Ethiopia and expressed their desire to continue working together with TBI.

Former UK PM Tony Blair, on his part, stated that the digital transformation agenda being implemented in Ethiopia has shown progress.

He reaffirmed that his institute will support the activities of the national Digital Transformation Council and other local institutions in the areas of artificial intelligence development, data management, digital identity and infrastructure construction.
