Addis Ababa, November 26, 2024 (FBC) – Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, Gedion Timothewos, received the Foreign Minister of the Sudan, Ambassador Ali Youssef Ahmed Al-Sharif, at his offices this morning, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA Ethiopia) disclosed.
During their discussion, the two ministers exchanged views on a range of bilateral issues and the current situation in Sudan.
The Sudanese Foreign Minister briefed Gedion on the developments in Sudan and expressed gratitude on behalf of the Sudanese people for Ethiopia’s warm hospitality and support in welcoming Sudanese citizens fleeing the conflict.
In response, Gedion reaffirmed Ethiopia’s solidarity with Sudan, stating, “It is our duty as neighbors to host our Sudanese brothers.”
He emphasized Ethiopia’s commitment to supporting a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict in Sudan in a manner that respects the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The Minister also highlighted the importance of direct dialogue and continued engagement on mutual concerns, including negotiations on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).
Both ministers agreed on the need for regular bilateral political consultations to strengthen ties, promote peace and stability, and advance regional economic integration.
