Follow-up consultations on implementation of the CoHA to be held in Mekelle

Addis Ababa February 7, 2023 (FBC) – Sarjoh Bah, Director, Conflict Management Directorate (CMD), Political Affairs, Peace and Security of the African Union has landed in Mekele.

According to his social media post the director is in Mekelle for follow-up consultations with the AU Monitoring, Verification and Compliance Mission on implementation of the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement (CoHA).

“We will also engage with the TPLF leadership while we are in Mekelle,”  Sarjoh Bah tweeted.

Regarding the restoration of services in the region, the director said that Ethiopian airlines flight to Mekelle is one of the tangible peace dividends since the CoHA was signed.

It is to be recall that on January 2023, the African Union deployed the full team of the AU Monitoring, Verification and Compliance Mission (AU-MVCM) in Mekelle, Tigray region of Ethiopia.

The deployment of African experts according to AU is consistent with article 11 of the agreement, relating to the Monitoring, Verification, and Compliance of the Permanent Cessation of Hostilities Agreement (COHA) signed on 2 November 2022, and specifically to the Parties’ agreement to appoint, through the AU High-Level Panel, a team of African experts to monitor the implementation of the permanent cessation of hostilities.
