Addis Ababa, October 25, 2024 (FBC) – Ethiopian delegation led by Finance Minister Mr. Ahmed Shide held bilateral discussions with US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Ambassador Molly Phee and the Assistant Secretary for US Treasury for International Affairs Brent Neiman on the sidelines of the 2024 WB-IMF Annual Meetings in Washington, D.C.
Ahmed Shide briefed the US officials on the current economic and political situation as well as on the progress of his government’s macroeconomic economic reform, and the crucial support needed from development partners, to support Ethiopia’s efforts to finalize the debt treatment negotiations under the G20 Common Framework.
In response, the US officials commended the achievements of Ethiopia’s macroeconomic reform to date, including the protection provided to vulnerable households during the reform transition period acknowledging the critical high level political leadership, and assured continued advocacy and support of the US for the timely resolution on the debt negotiations through the Global Sovereign Debt Roundtable and bilaterally.
According to Ethiopia’s Ministry of Finance, both sides agreed to deepen the US-Ethiopia partnership using bilateral as well as multilateral channels, including cooperation through the IMF and WB.
