Addis Ababa, June 2, 2024 (FBC) – Abraham Belay (PhD), Minister of Irrigation and Lowlands, received Mr. Giovanni Munoz, Chief of FAO East and Southern Africa Service and Farayi Zimudzi, FAO Representative in Ethiopia, to discuss ongoing cooperation between Ethiopia and the international organization.
The Minister and members of the FAO delegation discussed ways how to increase technical support for Ethiopia’s upcoming flagship projects and back Ministry’s efforts in developing irrigation codes and standards.
FAO expressed commitment to consider supporting the integration of GIS-based MIS systems into Ethiopia’s flagship programs and enhancing Ministry of Irrigation and Lowlands’ data management capabilities.
The two sides also explored other collaboration areas, such as support for irrigation design, construction, operation, and maintenance, as well as assistance with irrigation investment analysis and tariff settings.
This partnership with FAO marks a significant milestone in our efforts to enhance agricultural infrastructure and sustainability, the Minister said.
