MOSCOW, December 8 (Sputnik) – European Council President Charles Michel welcomed the agreements reached on Thursday between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Baku and Yerevan announced in a joint statement on Thursday the release of 32 Armenian servicemen by Azerbaijan, confirmed their desire to normalize relations and reach a peace treaty based on sovereignty and territorial integrity.
“Delighted to welcome a major breakthrough in Armenia-Azerbaijan relations as they issue a joint statement. Welcome in particular release of detainees and unprecedented opening in political dialogue. Establishing and deepening bilateral dialogue between sides has been a key objective of the EU-led Brussels process: today’s progress is a key step,” Michel wrote on X.
He also encouraged the leaders to finalize the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace deal as soon as possible.
