Addis Ababa, February 28, 2020 (FBC) – Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed met today with the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice President of the European Commission Josep Borrell.
During the discussion, the Prime Minister underlined that the government remains committed to forging ahead with the reforms begun almost two years ago.
Recalling critical political and economic milestones achieved, PM Dr Abiy shared the work being done by the government to further enhance milestones.
On regional peace and security, he reiterated that ultimate sacrifices will be paid to realise peace in the region, according to office of the Prime Minister.
Mr. Borrell congratulated Prime Minister Dr Abiy for his Nobel Peace Prize win and expressed that the EU is the biggest ally to Ethiopia.
He further affirmed continued support during the country’s democratic process and vowed to work closely together.
He further said EU would deploy Election Observation Mission to Ethiopia’s upcoming general elections.
Borrell is also expected to visit an EU-funded project SINCE, as part of the EU’s concrete support in addressing economic and social challenges in Ethiopia.
The High Representative/Vice-President Borrell will also pay a visit to Sudan, on Saturday, 29 February and on Sunday, 1 March.
He will meet Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok and the Chairman of the Sovereign Council, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan.
He will also meet in Khartoum with Foreign Ministers from member countries of the Intergovernmental Authority for Development (IGAD).
On Sunday, Josep Borrell will visit a camp for Internally Displaced People in Darfur.
