Addis Ababa, November 13, 2022 (FBC) – Ethiopia’s strategic partnership with China is based on the principle of respecting policy freedom, said Ambassador Teshome Toga.
The Inauguration Ceremony of the Global Development Promotion Center was held in Beijing yesterday, where the Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, was the guest of honor.
Ethiopia’s ambassador to China, Teshome Toga, speaking at the inauguration ceremony on behalf of the Friends of Global Development Initiative, said that the establishment of the promotion center will help facilitate the implementation of the international sustainable development goals.
Ambassador Teshome expressed his appreciation for the concrete steps taken by the China International Development Cooperation Agency in establishing the center.
He also stated that the Agency, in cooperation with various national, regional and international organizations, has a significant role to play in improving and speeding up the implementation of major agendas such as international sustainable development goals, implementation of climate change, and the Addis Ababa action agenda-finance for development.
According to the Ethiopian Embassy in Beijing, Ambassador Teshome said that the international community can be effective if it works hand in hand in the national policy framework, just like China has done.
He stated that attempts to impose policies and management and development models that do not take into account the specific internal conditions of each country are futile. The countries should freely choose and implement sovereign policy options and development models, including their development partners.
The Ambassador underlined that Ethiopia’s strategic partnership with China is based on the principle of respecting policy freedom.
He also emphasized that Ethiopia respects the choice of governance and development model that China insists is best for its people.
