Addis Ababa, December 9, 2023 (FBC) – The Ethiopian Green Legacy Initiative is the best way of tackling climate change in a nature-based approach, according to Oumer Hussein Oba, Ethiopia’s Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates.
An event hosted on the sidelines of Cop28 in Dubai by the Ethiopian Forestry Development at the Ethiopian green legacy pavilion, a discussion was held on issues pertaining to nature-based solutions to combat climate change, climate change finance and linkage between private sector investments in the area.
In his opening remarks at the event, Ambassador Oumer Hussein mentioned that Ethiopia’s re-greening and afforestation program is a model case for climate action.
Dyveke Rogan, the Deputy Director of Norway’s International Climate and Forest Initiative (NICFI) stated in her keynote speech that Ethiopia’s Green Legacy Initiative serves as an extraordinary commitment that serves a wider range of ecological wellbeing.
Representatives from the World Bank Group, United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) have also made a keynote speech concurring on Ethiopia’s nature-friendly solutions to climate action, it was indicated.
