Ethiopia’s PM in Asmara for bilateral talks, Tripartite Summit

Addis Ababa, January 27, 2020 (FBC) –Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed is in Asmara, Eritrea to discuss further enhancement of bilateral ties between the two countries.

The Prime Minister and his delegation, which include Defence Minister Lemma Megersa, arrived in Asmara yesterday.

The PM and the delegation were accorded warm welcome by President Isaias Afwerki on arrival at Asmara International Airport, according to Yemane Gebremeskel, Eritrea’s Minister of Information.

The Ethiopian and Eritrean leaders will further be joined by Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed today for a Tripartite Summit, Yemane added.

In a Twitter Post, Prime Minister Dr Abiy said “I will be meeting with my brothers, the leaders of Eritrea and Somalia.”

“President Isaias Afwerki, President Mohammed Abdullahi and I will discuss on a wide range of issues. As always, I am certain our dear and welcoming city of Asmara will make our stay delightful.”

Relations between Ethiopia, Eritrea and Somalia have continued to grow after the Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed came to power in 2018.
