Addis Ababa, May 31, 2024 (FBC) – Ethiopia’s forest has been found to store an astonishing 2.8 billion tons of carbon, Ethiopian Forestry Development (EFD) stated.
The achievement was shared during a media briefing ahead of World Environment Day, where the Ethiopian Forestry Development (EFD), along with its partners, highlighted the pivotal role Ethiopia’s green development work is playing in global environmental protection efforts.
Kebede Yimam, Director General of EFD, emphasized that the forest development activities carried out under the Green Legacy program have resulted in a tangible change in the climate system. Besides the notable increase in Ethiopia’s forest cover, the country has been able to store an impressive 2.8 billion tons of carbon.
Lelise Neme, Director General of the Ethiopian Environmental Protection Authority, also announced that various events will be held at the national level to celebrate World Environment Day on June 5. The theme of this year’s World Environment Day is “land restoration, desertification, and drought resilience.”
