Ethiopia’s five year recovery and reconstruction programme unveiled

Addis Ababa, June 12, 2023 (FBC) – Ethiopia’sfive year recovery and reconstruction programme to be implemented in the coming five years have been unveiled in the presence of regional leaders, high level government officials and representatives of international development partners.

It was stated in the launching ceremony that the conflict in the northern part of the country inflicted damage and economic loss amounting to 28.7 billion USD, and the recovery and reconstruction works need a budget of 20 billion USD.

The Finance Minister, Ahmed Shide, stated on the launching event that apart from the humanitarian assistance the Government of Ethiopia has appropriated the required budget and is working with commitment to achieve the recovery and reconstruction plan, calling international partners to contribute their part for the success of the programme.

Federal institutions and senior officials involved the plan, presidents of war affected regions, representatives of international organizations and heads of development partners, after a thorough deliberation, have reached an agreement on the implementation of the recovery and reconstruction programme.
