Addis Ababa, August 23, 2021 (FBC) – Thousands of Ethiopians rally near Saudi Arabia Embassy in Addis Ababa to denounce human rights violations committed by the Saudi government against undocumented Ethiopians in several parts of the country including Riyadh, Jeddah, Jizan and others.
The rally held under the theme “I am a voice for compatriots”, involved participation of residents drawn from various segments of the community.
Demonstrators called on the Saudi government to stop cruel acts against Ethiopians including arbitrary arrests, detention, unfair trials, torture and other forms of ill-treatment. Many Ethiopians including children, woman and elderly people are being ill-treated by the Saudi government in cellars.
They further urged Saudi to immediately repatriate Ethiopians in its detention centers. According MoFa, there are close to 80,000 Ethiopians in Saudi who are suffering from acute human rights violations by authorities of the government.
