Ethiopians concerted efforts will attain food security goals, overcome hurdles: PM Abiy

Addis Ababa, October 29, 2022 (FBC) – Ethiopians will attain their food security goals, overcome hurdle, and see the country thrive as they work together, FDRE Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said.

The Premier alongside the Oromia region chief administrator and other senior government officials visited the cluster wheat farm in East Shewa Zone.

After visiting the wheat farms, PM Abiy tweeted, saying; “In East Shewa Zone’s Dugda and Bora woredas, eight thousand farmers have successfully grown wheat through cluster farming on 31,000 hectares of land.”

“We will attain our food security goals, overcome hurdles, and see our country thrive as we work together”, he added.

The farmers are collecting their harvest and plowing the land with tractors.

According to the Agriculture Office of East Shewa Zone, more than 200 hectares of land is expected to be covered with wheat cultivation in the upcoming winter. More than 30 thousand hectares of land has been plowed so far in the Zone.

So far, 9,500 hectares of land has been covered with wheat, the Agriculture office of the zone further stated.

FBC understands that Ethiopia is expected to cultivate 1.3 million hectares of irrigated wheat in two rounds the upcoming winter. Out of this, 52 million quintals of production is expected to be produced.
