Addis Ababa, April 13, 2023 (FBC) – Ethiopian Christians are celebrating the Holy Thursday with various religious events taking place in churches.
Ethiopian Christians observe the Holy Thursday in commemoration of the Jesus’ Last Supper with his disciples and washing of their feet to teach humility.
During the Holy Thursday, like the previous days of the Holy Week, Faithful mark the day with deep prayers, prostration, confession and atonement for sinful acts.
The rite of the washing of the feet will takes place inside the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo and Ethiopian Catholic churches in the country.
In Ethiopian Orthodox Church, the Patriarch and the Archbishops wash the feet of the clergymen and the faithful at large to follow the examples of Jesus Christ.
This act symbolizes “serving with humility” as when Jesus Christ himself washed the feet of his disciples.
