Addis Ababa, December 27, 2022 (FBC) – The Ethiopian Airlines (Ethiopia) said it has resumed flight to Mekelle city after suspension due to law the conflict in the northern part of the country.
Ethiopian will be resuming regular flight on Wednesday December 28, 2023 to Mekelle, the capital city of Tigray region departing at 12:00 and arriving 13:25 in the afternoon, the CEO Mesfin Tassew briefed the media in a press briefing.
Activities are underway to resume regular local flights to other airports in the region, the CEO stated.
All staff of the airline has now been on duty it said; adding flight will continue once a day to the city, according to the Ethiopian Airlines.
The resumption of these flights will enable families to reunite, facilitate the restoration of commercial activities, stimulate tourist flow and bring many more opportunities which will serve the society.
Ethiopian Airlines is ready to serve its passengers who are traveling on the route between Addis Ababa and Mekelle and play its part in the socio-economic development of the country.
With planned daily flights to Mekelle, Ethiopian will increase the daily frequency depending on the demand on the route.
Ethiopian currently operates to a total of 20 domestic destinations currently and plans to increase this number in the coming years.
It is to be recall that a delegation of officials of the Federal Government of Ethiopia led by Tagesse Chafo arrived Mekele to oversee the implementation of major issues in the peace agreement as per the set plan.
