Addis Ababa, June 2, 2020 (FBC) – Ethiopian Airlines stated that it has generated more than 120 Million US Dollars revenue with in a last month, an income surpassing its monthly expenses.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Airlines, Tewolde Gebremariam said the airline is supporting the domestic economy besides covering its monthly costs.
The airlines successfulness is attributed to its timely engagement in cargo services, especially transportation of medical supplies across the world.
Ethiopian has maintained its leading position in the aviation industry though many countries have grounded their aircrafts due to the coronavirus pandemic, Tewolde said.
Tewolde noted Ethiopia’s being selected as a convenient transit hub to the distribution of medical supplies amidst COVID 19 pandemic in the region and across has created a good opportunity to the airlines to emerge as a global airlift operator.
According to Tewolde, the airlines is daily transporting 200 to 300 tons of flower bouquet from Ethiopia to the rest of the world thereby fostering the flower export sector and generating foreign currency to the country’s economy.
Ethiopian is set to convert more passenger aircrafts to cargo planes based in accordance with the global economic activity, Tewolde added.
