Addis Ababa, August 3, 2022 (FBC) – The Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) and the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) virtually signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the aim of enhancing and strengthening their mutual support and collaboration in their disease control and prevention system.
In his opening remark, Ambassador Teshome Toga congratulated both institutions for signing the MoU within a short period of time since they started partnership discussions through the Embassy in Beijing and shared his belief that it will help strengthen their cooperation in the years to come. He added that the collaboration between the two institutions is a very important aspect of the Africa-China cooperation under the framework of the Forum on China Africa Cooperation.
Finally the Ambassador congratulated the newly appointed Director-General of the Chinese CDC and reassured him that the Embassy will always work closely with him and the Chinese CDC.
Professor SHEN Hongbing, who is the newly appointed Director-General of the Chinese CDC on his part, mentioned that this virtual meeting is his first international engagement since his appointment as Director-General and he reaffirmed his and the Chinese CDC’s commitment to provide with all the necessary assistance and to enhance and strengthen its cooperation with EPHI.
He also thanked the Embassy and all the stakeholders who contributed to the successful signing of the MoU.
Similarly, Dr. Mesay Hailu – EPHI Director-General also expressed his happiness and thanked all the parties who contributed to the success of the partnership between the two institutions and noted that he and EPHI will stay committed to see this partnership come to fruition.
