Addis Ababa, August 28, 2024 (FBC) – The Ethiopian Police University stated that it is actively working to establish itself as Africa’s center of excellence in police education and training.
Ethiopian Police University Deputy Commissioner General, Mesfin Abebe told ENA that the university is undertaking a range of initiatives to modernize and develop scientific criminal investigation and analysis processes that will also strengthen the justice system.
The university is committed to strengthening the justice system by providing advanced training in modern forensic techniques, such as fingerprint analysis, documentation, and other scientific methods, he stated.
To further enhance its capabilities, the university is constructing a state-of-the-art Forensic Institute, which is expected to be operational by November, Mesfin pointed out.
According to him, this institute will not only offer specialized training but will also play a vital role in coordinating training and investigation efforts within the police service.
According to him, the university is also collaborating with international police training centers to strengthen global cooperation in the field.
The institute will be organized to meet international standards, he noted, stating that research and training will be coordinated with the support of researchers and scientists.
By signing agreements with police institutions of various countries, the university aims to exchange knowledge, share best practices, and enhance the capabilities of law enforcement agencies across the continent, he explained.
In addition to its focus on forensic training, the university is developing police leadership training center and civilian strategic institution, he revealed.
These centers will serve as platforms for research, experience sharing, and training, addressing the critical need for skilled and effective leadership within the law enforcement sector.
By investing in education, training, and research, the Ethiopian Police University is positioning itself as a regional and continental hub for knowledge and expertise in policing.
