Addis Ababa, August 21, 2024 (FBC) – The fixture list for the Ethiopian Premier League 2024/25 season has been officially released this afternoon, with the top two teams from the previous campaign set to clash on matchday 1.
The upcoming campaign, set to commence on September 20, 2024, at Dire-Dawa stadium, will feature 19 clubs, an increase from the previous seasons’ 16 participants.
The three clubs from the Tigray region, Mekele 70 Enderta, Suhul Shire, and Wolwalo Adigrat University, will be the new names alongside the newly promoted Arba-Minch City and Ethio Electric FC in the new season.
Accordingly, last season’s champions, Commercial Bank of Ethiopia FC, will start their title defence in a match up against last season’s runners-up Ethiopian Coffee SC on the opening day, while Hadiya Hossana will play Mekelle 70 Enderta, Ethio Electric takes on Wolayta Dicha, Suhul Shire faces Adama City, Arba-Minch City entertains Dire-Dawa City, and Sidama Coffee will play Hawassa City.
In addition, Saint George SC. will face Fasil Kenema, Bahir-Dar City will play Wolwalo Adigrat University, and Hadiya Hossana will encounter Wolkite City in the other fixtures on matchday 1.
The return of the three clubs from the Tigray region to the country’s top division competition since the conflict in the northern part of Ethiopia has added 102 games from the previous season, resulting in a total of 342 games to be played in 36 weeks for the 2024/25 Ethiopian Premier League season.
