Ethiopian Green Diplomacy Youth Delegation plants tree seedlings in Mogadishu

Addis Ababa, October 24, 2022 (FBC) – Ethiopian Green Diplomacy Youth delegation has planted tree seedlings in Mogadishu, Somalia.

The Ethiopian youth delegation led by the Deputy Director of African Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Jamaluddin Mustafa, arrived in Mogadishu at the weekend. Hence, the members of the delegation planted the tree seedlings they took from Ethiopia in the campus of the University of Somalia.

The former ambassador of Ethiopia to Somalia, Jamaluddin, highlighted the contributions that Ethiopia has made to Somalia’s peace.

Currently, planting seedlings and cementing fraternity is continuing as part of building a green economy and promoting the domestic green legacy initiative into other countries.

On his part, the Ambassador of Ethiopia to Somalia, Abdulfetah Abdullahi, confirmed that the tree seedlings  the delegation brought were planted by Ethiopians and Somali youth.

According to Amb. Abdulfettah, the seedlings planted in Mogadishu are portraits of the two countries’ development and economic ties beyond cooperation in security and intelligence.

“We have to hand over the world we inherited from our forefathers to the youth,” said Somalia’s Minister of State for Climate Change, Adem Ibrahim Hirse, saying that his country is a victim of severe drought every year.

He acknowledged the delegation’s significant contribution to the Green Somalia tree planting movement, an initiative launched by the President of Somalia to combat climate change.

Alongside the tree planting, a panel discussion was held in which the youth of Ethiopia and Somalia participated together.

The youth have also created a group of social media pages where they can maintain their relationship and already have started their activities.

Ethiopian green diplomacy youth delegation has been promoting the Green Legacy initiative in different African countries with the theme of “Plant African Fraternity” in the past few weeks.
