Ethiopian Envoy holds talks with Sudan official

Addis Ababa, April 11, 2021 (FBC) –Ethiopian Ambassador to Sudan, Yibeltal Aimro held discussion with Mohammed Sherif Abdela, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sudan.

They discussed on topics related to bilateral relations between the two countries, trilateral negotiation on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) and border dispute.

On the occasion, Ambassador Aimro told the undersecretary about invitation that Ethiopia had extended to Sudan to nominate dam operator to exchange data before the second filling of GERD commences.

Ethiopia has been taking all the necessary steps to ensure that the dam would not cause harm to the brotherly people of Sudan. In this regard, the dam should not be a concern for the people and government of Sudan, he said.

Regarding border dispute, he underscored the need to resolve the issue based on existing agreements and established committees.

Undersecretary Abdela for his part commended Ethiopia’s invitation for data exchange and underscored the need for legally binding agreement on this issue.

He further recommended the two countries to resolve their border dispute through dialogue and their high-level political committee.
