Addis Ababa, June 5, 2023 (FBC) – Ethiopian delegation is participating in the mid-year forum of the United Nations Climate Change Conference, in Bonn, Germany.
It is noted that the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change is held every year in June, and the meeting started today in Bonn, Germany.
It has been pointed out that the main purpose of the meeting is to draft resolutions for the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference to be held in the United Arab Emirates in December 2023.
The Ethiopian delegation headed by Minister of State for Planning and Development Sandokan Debebe is participating in the Bonn Climate Conference.
It is expected that in today’s meeting, various climate change agendas will be discussed thoroughly and resolutions will be prepared for the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference.
In his opening speech at the Conference, Simon Stiell, UN Climate Change Executive Secretary, urged the delegates (participants) to be brave – to see that by serving the common good, they also serve their national interest.
“I believe we are at a tipping point. Rapid change often follows a long gestation period. The gestation period for Climate Action has been long enough. We need to bring that tipping point forward,” he emphasized.
The Ministry of Planning and Development indicated that Minister of State Sandokan will hold bilateral discussions with representatives from various countries, groups and organizations on the margins of the UN Climate Change Conference (SB58)
The UN office for Climate Change indicated that the goal for this decade is to reduce emissions by 43% in the planet.
