Ethiopian delegation participates in the 19th World Meteorological Congress in Geneva

Addis Ababa, May 23, 2023 (FBC) – An Ethiopian delegation led by Fetene Teshome, Director General of the Ethiopian Meteorological Institute, is participating in the Nineteenth World Meteorological Congress (WMO Cg-19), being held from May 22 to  June 2, 2023, at the International Conference Centre of Geneva (CICG), Geneva, Switzerland.

During the high-level panel dialogue, Abraha Adugna, State Minister for Water and Energy of Ethiopia, made a statement on the Early Warning for All initiative on accelerating and scaling up action at the country level.

In his remarks, the Minister of State highlighted the significance of the Early Warning System for All Initiative (EW4All) to the world, its importance to Ethiopia, efforts being undertaken so far by the government of Ethiopia in areas of the early warning system, Ethiopia’s involvement in the initiative, and possible areas of cooperation between the World Metrological Organization and Ethiopia to further advance the initiative.

Dignitaries, including Prof. Petteri Taalas, Secretary General of the World Meteorological Organization, Ministers, and high-ranking officials from different countries, also made statements on how to implement the ambitious goal of the EW4All initiative, it is noted.

The World Meteorological Congress, the supreme body of World Meteorological Organization (WMO), holds its 19th session from 22 May to 2 June 2023. It assembles all 193 Member States and Territories of the WMO.
