Ethiopian delegation attends ILO’s 111th Int’l Labour Conference in Geneva

Addis Ababa, June 5, 2023 (FBC) – Ethiopian delegation, representing employers and workers, is  attending the International Labor Organization (ILO)’s 111th International Labour Conference in Geneva, Switzerland.

ILO’s 111th International Labour Conference kicked off today in Geneva, Switzerland. Worker, employer and government delegates from ILO’s 187 Member States are discussing on a just transition towards sustainable and inclusive economies, quality apprenticeships, and labour protection.

It is said that the ILC2023 is the largest international gathering dedicated to the world of work. It is also noted that many of the labour rights that are being taken for granted today were first established at ILO’s International Labour Conference.

During his keynote speech at the opening of the conference, Gilbert F. Houngbo, Director-General of ILO, said; “We need to press harder on the accelerator of Social Justice. It’s the “raison d’être” of our organization and the basis of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.”

“A Global Coalition for Social Justice is needed to galvanise our efforts and quicken progress towards achieving our shared development goals,” he added.
