Ethiopian delegation attending Global Refugee Forum in Geneva

Addis Ababa, December 13, 2023 (FBC) – Ethiopian delegation headed by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Mr. Demeke Mekonnen, is in attendance of the Global Refugee Forum 2023 in Geneva, Switzerland.

The forum, which opened today, is expected to advance the causes of refugees and communities hosting them.

It is also set to reflect on what has been achieved since the last Global Refugee Forum in 2019 and also announce new pledges for the next four years with the focus of boosting cooperation and partnership tailored at improving the lives of refugees and their hosts, Refugees and Returnees Service of Ethiopia (RRS) indicated.

“As most displaced people are hosted by developing countries, we should work to enhance refugees’ self-reliance and host communities’ resilience,” Deputy PM & FM Demeke Mekonnen said while announcing his country’s 6 new pledges to advance the inclusion of almost 1 million refugees at the Global Refugee Forum.

Attending the forum are governments, international organizations, civil society, private sector entities and refugees themselves with the primary aim to foster solidarity and cooperation in addressing refugee issues worldwide.
