Ethiopian, Canadian FMs hold talks on bilateral relations

Addis Ababa, May 7, 2020 (FBC) –Ethiopia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gedu Andargachew, has held phone talks with this Canadian counterpart François-Philippe Champagne.

In the talks held yesterday, May 6, 2020, the two discussed ways to reinforce the bilateral relation and international cooperation between the two countries.

The two sides agreed to strengthen their cooperation in the fight against the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Gedu said Ethiopia will work to give the age-old ties between the two counties a new height. The Foreign Minister also briefed Ethiopia’s COVID-19 containment efforts.

As the coronavirus is a global challenge, it needs joint efforts of all countries to curb the virus from spreading, Gedu stated.

Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, François-Philippe Champagne, for his part said that his country attaches a special place to its relations with Ethiopia.

The Canadian FM also seized the opportunity to thank Ethiopian Airlines for its instrumental role in bringing Canadian travellers home during COVID-19 pandemic.
