Addis Ababa, December 15, 2022 (FBC) – Direct flights between Addis Ababa and Singapore will reportedly resume in March, bringing back more destination options and trade opportunities as the air travel scene continue its return trip to normality.
According to the reports by COCONUTS SINGAPORE and World Airline News, Ethiopian Airlines and Changi Airport Group (CAG) today announced in a joint release that Ethiopian Airlines will return to Changi Airport on March 25, 2023 to resume its flights to and from Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia.
The African flag carrier, which was voted the “Best Airline in Africa” for five consecutive years, will fly its 270-seat Boeing 787-8 aircraft between Singapore and Addis Ababa four times per week.
The airline previously suspended its services to Singapore in March 2020 due to the pandemic. The release said that there were more than 1.4 million passengers who traveled between Africa and Southeast Asia in 2019, a 30% increase since 2015.
The return of the flights will introduce a new vacation destination for locals who haven’t been.
“For many Singaporeans, Ethiopia could also be an exciting new vacation destination as it boasts many attractions ranging from historic sites such as Axum to breathtaking natural geography such as the Simien Mountains and Blue Nile falls,” CAG’s Managing Director of Air Hub Development Lim Ching Kiat wrote.
The move will also open up more trade, investment, and tourism opportunities for both Singapore and Africa.
The release notes Singapore’s investment in the continent rose to 20 billion USD (~S$27 billion) in 2019 due to Africa being one of the world’s fastest-growing regions economically.
